Curio Tower

Curio Tower Front View

There are several historic Arts & Crafts pieces of furniture that are archtypical. Tall, slender, tapering shelves originally built by the Roycrofters is one of those. Look at it and you know what the Arts & Crafts style is all about. The proportions and balance are enhanced by the expressed construction techniques, which are the tower's most important embellishment.

The original sported the Roycrofters' logo, and when our client asked us to recreate the tower, he asked if we had a logo to place in a similar position on the side of the tower. That entailed designing something worthy of the simple elegance of the tower. You'll note the DC incised in the sides.

We consider the request high praise indeed, and not a little responsibility: Whether it's credit or blame, there's no way to deny we made this thing.

We did add one small feature, though. The original had a simple flat bonnet topping the tower. We thought a small, unobtrusive drawer would go there rather nicely. Besides, it's always nice to have a secret place for passport and escape money.
